Wednesday Satellite Symposium on Increasing Options for Patients With Small-Cell
Lung Cancer.
Overview and Purpose
The Increasing Options for Patients With Small-Cell Lung Cancer symposium is designed to update
physicians on both current therapeutic options for patients with small-cell lung cancer and emerging
therapies in development. Following an expert overview of the treatment of small-cell lung cancer in 2008, current data on
novel anthracyclines will be presented, along with a discussion of new therapeutic targets for small-cell lung cancer therapy,
including angiogenesis, hypoxia-inducible factor-1α, and apoptotic pathways. This symposium will include
didactic lectures by international experts in the field, along with an extensive case-based panel discussion that
will provide an opportunity to present questions and interact with the panel.
Target Audience
This educational program is directed toward medical
oncologists, radiation oncologists, thoracic surgeons,
and pulmonologists as well as investigators,
practitioners, and fellows in training with research
interests in lung cancer. Nurses, physician assistants,
and pharmacists in oncology interested in the
treatment of lung cancer are also invited to attend.
Learning Objectives
At the conclusion of this symposium, you should be able to:
- Enumerate treatment options for patients with extensive and limited-disease small-cell lung cancer
- Evaluate the adverse event profile of various anthracyclines that have activity in small-cell lung cancer
- Review the activity and safety of various therapeutic options for patients with small-cell lung cancer whose disease recurs following initial platinum-based therapy
